Volunteer helps inspire youth to run and volunteer

Spectrum News 13

ORLANDO, Fla. — Our Everyday Hero is part of an army of volunteers helping make the city of Orlando’s annual Community Rainbow Run possible. The Track Shack Foundation organizes races with the hope of inspiring kids to get interested in fitness and running. That reason keeps Robert Yacabucci coming back year after year.

“It’s a good way of using your free time to show your community that you care. Another thing it’s a good way to get young people involved as a mentor,” Yacabucci said.

And that’s a big reason why he does this. It’s all about the kids he has been volunteering in the community for the last 25 years and he hopes that kids get inspired to volunteer too.

“I was brought up by a father who taught me that you always need to give back to your community. It’s also just a great experience to be around the people. Volunteers are part of a different breed. They care about others, and they always have a positive attitude,” Yacabucci said.

The Community Rainbow Run has come and gone, but it takes an army to pull off the event with around two thousand runners and 100 volunteers.

“Just a super enthusiastic guy who wants to be out there and wants to make a difference in the community. Cares about the work that we do and makes things easier on us by consistently being willing to help out,” Chris Hughes said.

While he doesn’t run much anymore, Yacabucci says he appreciates everything the nonprofit stands for and plans to continue helping with this movement and others for as long as he can.
